The day-to-day business of the Society is conducted by a board of 15 members, five of whom are elected for a three year term at the annual spring meeting. The Board meets monthly except in December. Two general membership meetings are held each year, one in fall and one in spring.
In response to the National Christ Child Society's new campaign to " Challenge Poverty One Child At A Time " the South Bend Chapter has established the S.U.C.C.E.S.S. program; a partnership with Saint Adalbert, an inner-city school. Society members work closely with the school administration to provide tutoring and mentoring for students, assistance to the office staff, and funding for special projects.
Christ Child has as its service projects the supplying of layettes for newborn babies, the providing of new winter clothing for needy children up to the age of 12, and the Christmas Gift Program. In 1996,."My Stuff" bags for children removed from homes due to abuse and neglect were added as a service project.
The Society operates from the Christ Child Center on Scott Street. Staffed by dedicated volunteers who dispense clothing and layettes on the basis of referrals from local service agencies, schools and churches, the Center is open every Wednesday, six months of the year.
The Society is completely self-supporting; no money is received from United Way or any government agency. Funds to support Christ Child projects are raised from:
